Spelling mistakes can ruin the credibility of a website, a college application essay, or a business proposal. In many cases it is crucial to have perfect spelling, and practice does not always make perfect. Many spelling mistakes are self-learned through repetition of  errors. Spelling mistakes consist of careless errors (such as typos) or systematic errors, and overtime they can become a habit that is difficult to change. Someone who consistently spelled ‘pronounciation’ will face resistance in spelling the word without the letter ‘o’ in the middle.

It does not help that the English language is constantly evolving. Spelling ‘alright’ as a single word used to be not at all all right. But with the common usage of the spelling ‘alright’, this single word spelling is slowly gaining a foothold in contemporary dictionaries. What used to be a spelling mistake can gain acceptance as a proper word. English spelling is further complicated by the differences between British and American spelling. Now with the fast evolvement of the language, learning English spelling is becoming an even more difficult task.

Here is a list of people’s most common spelling mistakes. Be aware though, these common spelling mistakes may evolve into proper English spelling if they grow popular enough.

List of most common spelling mistakes:

Develope Develop
Accomodation Accommodation
Intergrate Integrate
Grammer Grammar
Dilemna Dilemma
Wierd Weird
Definately Definitely
Alot A lot
Rhythem Rhythm
Arrgument Argument
